When an isolated power panel or any other electrical device is installed in an operating
room designated as a flammable anesthetizing location, the enclosure must be located
at least 5 feet above the floor.
Conductors used for branch circuit wiring should be stranded copper having a cross-linked
polyethelene insulation or equivalent with a dielectric constant of 3.5 or less.
Type XHHW is suitable for this purpose. Wire pulling compounds, other than talc, produce an adverse
effect upon the dielectric constant of the conductor insulation and are specifically prohibited
by the NEC when pulling branch circuit wiring energized from the secondary of the isolation
transformer.
Conduit routings should be as direct and as short as possible to minimize leakage current.
Metallic conduit is required for all hazardous anesthetizing locations.
